Monique Reijnierse
Curriculum Vitae Monique Reijnierse, MD PhD Monique Reijnierse is musculoskeletal radiologist in Leiden University Medical Center, The Netherlands, since 2008 and involved in patient care, education and research. She obtained her medical degree at the University of Leiden in 1988 and worked as a surgery resident at the Westeinde Hospital in The Hague for two years. In 1990 she started in the radiology department in Leiden as a research fellow and resident and finished radiology training in 1996 in Nijmegen. After that she worked as a staff member in University Medical Center in Nijmegen and Leiden and obtained her PhD in 2000 on “MRI of the cervical spine in rheumatoid arthritis” in Leiden (promotores Prof JL Bloem and Prof FC Breedveld). From 2001 until 2008 she was a staff member in the Sint Maartenskliniek in Nijmegen, a specialized clinic for orthopedic surgery and rheumatology. In 2008 she returned to LUMC as head of MSK radiology, which she performed for 12.5 years. Her research interest is the early detection of disease in rheumatoid arthritis and spondyloarthritis as well as degenerative joint disease, with the use of state-of-the-art imaging, focused on MRI. Her endeavors are geared towards unraveling pathophysiology, monitoring effectiveness of therapy, increasing cost-effectiveness of imaging and developing new technical approaches in data acquisition and post processing. To this end there is a close cooperation with other clinical and scientific groups within the radiology department and the rheumatology and orthopedic departments of LUMC. Research grants from the Dutch government (CTMM Tracer- Center of Translational Molecular Medicine and ZonMW) and Dutch Reuma Fonds, facilitate national and international research with several PhD students. She is a member of several international societies (including RSNA, ISS, ECR, ESSR), co-founder and chair of the Dutch musculoskeletal society and organizer of basic and advanced Musculoskeletal Ultrasound courses in the Netherlands. She contributes as a presenter and tutor in musculoskeletal (ultrasound) courses of ISS, ESSR and ECR. She was a member of the executive committee of the ESSR (councilor 2010-2013), member of the musculoskeletal scientific committee of the ECR (2009-2011) and member of the educational exhibit committee of the RSNA (2011-2013, reappointed 2014-2016). She is member of the executive committee of the ISS (2014-2016). She was co-chair of radiology for the ISS in Philadelphia in 2013, and member of the program planning committee ISS 2014 and 2015. In 2014 she chaired the musculoskeletal scientific committee of the European Congress of Radiology. She was congress-president of the ESSR in Amsterdam 14-16 june 2018.
