Maria Konsta, MD PhD, is since 2021 a rheumatology consultant and Head of the Department of Rheumatology at Sismanoglion Hospital in Athens, Greece. Maria graduated from Medical School, of Athens University in Greece.She has done a Master in Biostatistic at the University of Athens.She obtained her PhD at the University of Athens, on "Biomarkers of radiographic progression in Ankylosing Spondylitis".She was trained in rheumatology in the rheumatology departments of Veterans Administration Hospital and Laikon University Hospital in Athens.Following the completion of her residency, she did a traineeship in SpA as a guest researcher in Rheumatology Clinic of Vrije Universiteit medical center (VUmc), in Amsterdam, under the supervision of dr. Irene van der Horst-Bruinsma (EULAR bursary & grant from Greek Rheumatology Society). She has worked as a consultant rheumatologist both in private and public sector.Her research focuses on imaging outcome in SpA in spine and especially in hips.
