Prof Maharaj is the past Head of Department and Principal Specialist, at the Department of Internal Medicine, Prince Mshiyeni Memorial Hospital, Nelson R Mandela School of Medicine, Durban, South Africa, a position he held from 2006-2018. He is currently a research professor in the Department of Internal Medicine & Pharmacology, Faculty of Health. Sciences, Walter Sisulu University, Mthatha, South Africa.
