ASAS Membership Application and Policies

Current/Previous members

All current members will be contacted by email or postal service to identify their continued interest in ASAS. They will be contacted a second time if they do not respond. If after that they do not respond, they will be taken off the list as members. This process was conducted in 2002-2003.

All current members will be expected attend at least 1 meeting and/or participate in ASAS sponsored questionnaires or studies every 2 years.

Cost/Dues

No dues will be charged members.

Number of Members

The limit on the number of members will be determined at a later date.

Policy on Employees of pharmaceutical companies

Persons in industry may not apply for membership outside that included in the Corporate Partner Program.

New Membership

New members must submit an application with a modified C.V. demonstrating a dedicated interest in spondylitis. Letter of support from two current ASAS members are required. [Sample Dedicated CV]

Types of Membership (Decided upon by the Advisory Committee)

Full member of the ASAS Working Group | This category is for those individuals who have an established record in the field. Full members are able to vote in general meetings. This could include a minimum number of publications in English language peer reviewed journals (3-5). This will be for a period of five years. After that period you have to renew your membership. You will receive all mailings and information about the ASAS working group and are entitled to attend all our meetings. You are also included in voting processes and Delphi exercises.

Associate member of the ASAS Working Group | Associate members are either trainees or those that are developing a record in the study of spondyloarthropathy. They do not have the ability to conduct independent research projects. The may apply for full membership at a later time. They will not be able to vote in general meetings and not be able to participate in the Delphi exercises. This will be for a period of two years. After that time you can either apply for a renewal of your associate membership or for a full membership. You will receive all mailings and information about the ASAS working group and are entitled to attend all our meetings.

Decisions

Decisions will be made three times a year by the Advisory Committee. Deadline for membership applications are January 1, June 1, and October 1 each calendar year. These deadlines are to coincide with ASAS meetings held in conjunction with EULAR, ACR, or Gent. The January deadline coincides with the ASAS annual meeting.
